In the Hampton Roads area, sports reign supreme. While we celebrate musical icons like Pharrell Williams, Missy Elliott, and Timbaland, it’s the power of sports that truly unites our community.
This past August, people from across the 757 gathered at Churchland High School for the inaugural Home is Where The Heart event. Talented players from today’s generation came together, not just to compete in a basketball game, but to demonstrate to the community and youth that they’re always connected to home.
Organized by former Norfolk State and Booker T. Washington standout Steven ‘Diesel’ Whitley, the event aimed to entertain while inspiring the next generation of stars. Whitley’s vision was to create a space where young athletes could see role models in action, reinforcing the idea that with dedication and community support, their dreams are within reach.
The player list includes:
Marcus Evans, Joe Bryant Jr., Keyontae Johnson, Briante Weber, Chris Clarke, Devon Hall, Dereon Seabron, Anthony Barber, Chris Evans, Dontrell Brite, David McCormack, Jermaine Marrow, Malique Trent, Matt Coleman, Devante Carter, Steven Pledger, Frank Hassell, Marquis Godwin, Richard Washington, James Daniels, Jalen Ray, James Mcadoo, Jaleel Nelson, Scott Spencer, Kyle Foster, and Xavier Green.
